Larger Head Slows down Development of Alzheimer’s Disease

larger head

According to the new research, people who have bigger heads are slowly to have Alzheimer’s disease rather than those who have smaller heads. Maybe because they have larger brains and have more power in cognitive.
According to Lindsay Farrer, the co-author and chief of the genetics program in Boston University, there are no certainty about the brain size and the head size in increasing the rate of people who are suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. However, if there is a connection between big heads and the growth of having Alzheimer’s disease, then this will be another great discovery and it can be used in finding ways in treating the disease.
Farrer also added that their primary goal is to discover earlier if a person will develop Alzheimer’s disease or not. In addition to this, some drugs that have been taken in most of the patients are not really giving them any cure about the disease.
Moreover, according to the scientists who studied this for a very long time, they believed that the shape of the head has something to do with the person’s personality and intelligence. However, with this new study, there is really a connection between being smart with the size of their brain.
Catherine Roe, a researcher and professor in neurology at Washington University School of Medicine said that there are still more factors that are linked with intelligence aside from the size of the head and brain.
There must be an association between how many neurons are applicable and the person’s brain size to cover up when the Alzheimer’s disease took place, and this is according to the new research that have been studied.
They analyzed the medical records of 270 patients that are suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. They examined their head circumference, the progression of the disease and the shrinking of the brain. They found out that patients that have larger head tend to develop brain atrophy slower.
