According to research, fish oil plays a very important role in preventing chronic diseases.
A research is conducted in the Fred Hutchinson Cancer research Center in Seattle which is lead by Emily White, Ph.D and a member of the public health science division. They asked 35,016 post menopausal women with no history of breast cancer. They are given a 24-page questionnaire about their non-mineral, non-vitamin supplements in the Vitamins and Lifestyle cohort study.
They are followed for six years and they recorded 880 cases of breast cancer. They used the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results registry. They found out that there is a link between fish oil supplements and chronic diseases. Fish oil supplements contain high levels of omega 3 fatty acids, EPA, and DHA. They found out that women who are taking fish oil supplements have a 32 percent reduce risk in breast cancer. The reduction is restricted to invasive ductal breast cancer. It is the most common type of breast cancer.
According to research, other supplements that women take to treat menopause is not associated with breast cancer risk. Other supplements that they take are not included in the said supplements. This research is the first to discover the link between breast cancer and fish oil supplements.
According to White, it may be the omega 3 fatty acids in fish oil supplements that reduce the risk of breast cancer. He also added that this study is not yet supported by other studies. They needed other studies that will confirm this study. They want to encourage other scientists to make a research to support this topic. He also said that they must not create any conclusions without any confirming studies about the relationship between breast cancer and fish oil supplements.
Fish oil continues to excite many because of its protective effect from different diseases.
