Emails Causes Health Improvement

Share

According to the research in California, patients that are suffering from hypertension and diabetes and frequently communicating with their physicians have seen more improvements with their health.

Since patients are communicating with their physicians more often, their doctor always has a chance to check their blood pressure and their blood sugar through emails. This is implemented by Kaiser Permanente health system in year 2004 as a part of nation wide campaign for this process of having communication with the patients and their physicians through emails.

There are almost three million people with the same diseases stated above signed this campaign and before the year 2008 end, there are 3, 092 physicians and 35, 423 patients that are already using it for their own privilege.

In addition to this, there are already 630, 807 emails that are sent and delivered between physicians and patients from March 2006 up to December 2008. Moreover, it also reaches for almost 85 percent now who are using this kind of method.
The progress of this method has the percentage of 2.4 percent to 6.5 percent in controlling blood sugar and has screening for it. Moreover, patients who have emailed their physicians can screen and control their cholesterol for those who have disease in kidney.

Furthermore, those who are emailing their physicians that are suffering from hypertension or diabetes always have a level of 140/90 of their blood pressure rather than those who have not.
Aside from the fact that the physicians can monitor their patient’s health through emails, the improvements are also in higher achievements. Since patients are able to tell their doctors about what they are feeling for that very moment can help them feel good and no need to worry.

According to Terhilda Garrido, the author of this study said that through this method, most of their patients tend to be close with their physicians and their relationship as doctor-patient and patient-doctor really improve together with the improvement of their patient’s health.
